Residential Shelter Aide– Scott Place
Job Summary

This position must maintain the security and confidentiality needed for this type of specialized program. Must be able to intervene in conflict or crisis situations and is responsible for maintaining documentation, ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter during the assigned hours. Employee will work with other staff and volunteers to create a supportive community, helping to meet the needs of each resident. May include general cleaning and food responsibilities.

Education Experience

High School Diploma or GED. Previous experience in social service and working with homeless and/or low-income individuals is preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and listen and communicate verbally and in written form. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Can walk up and down 20+ steps, 4 or more times daily.

License/Training/Certifications

Valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers and CPR/FA cards, and any other certifications that may be required for the position. *Some certifications are provided/paid for by employer.

Job Requirements/Responsibilities

Be able to provide own transportation; complete Criminal Background Check; Protective Services Record Check; TB Risk Assessment or TB screening by Mantoux method. General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office & familiar with using email, preferred), strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions. Desire to work with homeless and/or low-income individuals. Previous experience with motivational interviewing is a plus. Must be knowledgeable or willing to learn about the needs of homeless persons and families of all ages, gender, race, disabilities, addictions, etc. Must be capable of working all shifts (day, afternoon, midnight), weekends, and some holidays as required. Maintain confidentiality of shelter or resident matters. Ensure building security and resident safety as well as appearance and cleanliness.
