Shelter Worker - RCH
Job Summary

This position must maintain the security and confidentiality needed for this type of specialized program. Must be able to intervene in conflict or crisis situations and is responsible for maintaining documentation, ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter during the assigned hours. Employee will work with other staff and volunteers to create a supportive community, helping to meet the needs of each resident. May include general cleaning and food responsibilities. Day/Evening shift(s) with ability to cover other shifts as needed; to include weekends, and some holidays as required.

Education/Skills/Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Previous experience in social service & working with homeless &/or low-income individuals is preferred. General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office & familiar with using email, preferred), strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions. Desire to work with homeless and/or low-income individuals. Previous experience with motivational interviewing is a plus.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, & listen & communicate verbally & in written form. The employee must be able to lift &/or move up to 20 pounds. Can walk up & down steps 4 or more times daily.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Valid Driver\\\'s License. Be able to provide own transportation. Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers and CPR/FA cards, and any other certifications that may be required for the position. *Some certifications are provided/paid for by employer. Complete Criminal Background Check; Protective Services Record Check; TB Risk Assessment or TB screening. Complete shelter referrals, basic intakes on paper. Monitor resident\\\'s conduct and enforce shelter rules, as per handbook. Maintain daily activity logs which specify additional duties and/or shift. Ensure building cleanliness, security, resident safety. Sort donations/food and may prepare & serve meals. Assist with the cleanup and operations of the kitchen. Ensure that all residential areas are cleaned daily, weekly &/or as needed.
